The Barcelona chair was exclusively designed for the German Pavilion, Germany’s exhibition for the Barcelona World Fair of 1929. The design resulted from the famous Bauhaus Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The Barcelona Chair, naturally named because of its first use and rise to fame in Barcelona, has enjoyed steadily increasing sales and production worldwide.
Mies re-designed the original chair in 1950 in order to make use of stainless steel which had become available due to a recent advancement in technology.

An icon of modernism, the Barcelona chair’s design has become a Classic.
